Ready to get certified? You can start the process right now
- Go to www.wbenc.org and complete the online application.
- You’ll receive an email explaining where to send your supporting documentation and non-refundable processing fee.
- Once ASTRA has received a completed file from the applicant, it takes approximately 60-90 days to review your materials and arrange a site visit. After Astra has reviewed your paperwork, we’ll arrange an interview with you at your place of business.
- Following the interview, you’ll receive notification from Astra about your certification status.

While the process takes time, it’s worth it. Many companies rely on WBENC certification to identify suppliers that meet their diversity goals. Plus, our members tell us they’ve seen their sales cycles slashed by months thanks to certification.
Criteria for Certification
- Minimum of 51 percent ownership of the company. The applicant must share in all risk and profits commensurate with her ownership interest.
- Control and Management: Proof of active management of the business. Women must possess the power to direct or cause to direct the management and policies of the business.
- Capital. Contribution of capital by women owners to acquire their ownership interest shall be real and substantial and be in proportion to the interest acquired.
- Independence: The woman owner shall have the ability to perform in her area of specialty or expertise without substantial reliance on males or non-women-owned businesses.
- U.S. citizen or Legal Resident Alien Status.
