A Letter from Janice Greene, Astra President and CEO
August 7, 2017
Greetings Astra community, friends and supporters. This is my first communication as the new President & Chief Executive Officer of Astra Women’s Business Alliance (Astra). Thank you to many of you for your encouraging words and well wishes. First, I want to congratulate Diane McClelland and Suzanne Lackman on moving on to the next chapter of their lives and the legacy they have created for women-owned businesses. I would also like to personally thank our valued women business enterprises, corporate members, and strategic partners for their continued support and commitment to Astra.
Although I am new to the CEO position, I have prior experience as Astra’s Board Chair and have worked closely with the Board of Directors and Diane McClelland. I believe this gives me valuable insight into the organization, its stakeholders, as well as its dynamic and programs. I also bring years of corporate experience which included manufacturing, business operations, human resources, global supplier diversity, and economic development. Combined with my involvement in various organizations focused on supplier diversity and economic development, and diversity, I have a clear understanding with the importance of diversity in today’s marketplace and how the expertise of diverse suppliers can meet business needs of both agencies and corporations.
There were many factors that led to my decision to join Astra. Not only does this position align with my personal, professional and community development goals, it has an inherent sense of purpose at its core. I’d like to share three of the many considerations that led to my decision to lead Astra:
Being a Regional Partner Organization aligned with a respected organization like WBENC that touches the economic wellbeing of families and communities by providing opportunities for women owned businesses
Creating strategies that enable women business enterprises to flourish in both the domestic and global marketplace
Strengthening networks and relationships and increasing opportunities for collaboration between affiliate organizations, corporations, agencies
We have a great team here at Astra who are committed to support the WBENC mission-
“To fuel economic growth globally through access to opportunities, by identifying, certifying and facilitating development of women-owned businesses”.
The Astra team looks forward to serving your needs and collaborating with all of our constituents, women business enterprises, and other stakeholders. Together we will take Astra Women’s Business Alliance to new levels by strengthening our focus on WBENC’s core competencies: Certification, Opportunities, Resources and Engagement.
If you have any questions about Astra and or input that could inform our future planning, please feel free to contact me directly at any time. I can be reached at email@example.com.
